When all else fails you, go to a soft plastic worm!
Out of all the different types of freshwater lures that are on the market, no other type of freshwater bait has caught more fish for freshwater fisherman than the humble
soft plastic worm.
So what makes the humble worm the most successful and favourite of
freshwater fishing lures?
Well for one thing they are dead easy to fish with, for most people the finesse style of fishing needed when
fishing soft plastic worms comes naturally, even if they have never fished freshwater before.
Another great aspect of using worms is their action in the water, whether you rig your worms Texas style or whacky style, the action a worms presents to bass and many other freshwater species is just too attractive to pass up; which is probably why the humble soft plastic worm has become the 'go to freshwater lure' for most seasoned anglers.

"The foundation of effective
crankbait fishing is very simple; know the depth your crankbaits run. Until this knowledge is in hand, all the other crankbait questions are very insignificant. After all, if you can't get the bait to the fish, how could color, shape, action, or models of crankbaits make any difference whatsoever".
These are the words of bass pro and fishing legend Mike McClelland in his book "Walleye Troubleshooting", and when I read the above passage a few days ago I was reminded of an experience I once had that illustrated this point perfectly.

Rods for Fishing in the Sea
There are 2 basic types of sea fishing rods: beach casting rods and spinning rods.
Beach casting rods are the most common and the most popular rods for salt water tackle. These rods have a length that ranges from 11 to 13 feet. The end of the rod has a fast or very fast taper. Are All
Lure Making Timbers Born Equal?
I know this seems like a dumb question, but it's amazing how few people give any real thought to what type of timber they should use for their lure making! But the type of wood you select be the difference between an ok lure and one that's an absolute winner!
In fact, if you're really serious about your luremaking you certainly wouldn't limit yourself to a single timber - I use several different ones, depending on the intended use of my lure.

The entire point of a
fishing lure is for said lure to look like some sort of bait that fish eat. In many cases fishing lures are designed to look like a wounded or injured fish so that predator fish are more likely to think they're getting an easy meal. This is all well and good and companies such as Rapala and Yo-Zuri have been making high quality fishing lures that work well for years. And these
types of lures catch fish, there's no doubt about that, but at the end of the day how do you make a

Freshwater fishing lures range from big to small and are great for any type of fish. They can be used in any type of water at anytime of the day. When I use freshwater fishing lures I try to use the ones with most attraction to the fish. I would pick one with the right
size first, then maybe a colored one but that depends on the quality of the water. If the water looks green you most likely would want to use a dark and green freshwater
fishing lure and also one with a bit of jiggle and noise to it so it attracts the
fish.

In my opinion, the most important thing to remember while
river fishing is not to spook the water that you're about to fish. I've seen entirely too many anglers do this very thing. For example, they'll wade 1/4 of the way out into the river and
begin fishing. Thus leaving themselves standing in the very water they probably should have fished first.

Hooks are hooks in most anglers' minds. They figure they either need a big one or a small one, depending on the fish they are pursuing. Lots of anglers go through life completely missing the importance of using not only the right size sea hook, but probably most importantly the right type of sea hook.
It's not just
pure fishing luck that makes the difference in all sea anglers catching more than you. Most of the time it's the hook choice you make on the day. A thick forged
hook is not the right choice for small fish, fish with small mouths or soft lipped fish. A thin Aberdeen wire hook that can penetrate quickly in the inside of the mouth would be a better choice however you would also need a hook that holds its strength and shape.

Beginners for
fly fishing usually have a different "control" over their rods. This is what happens and is expected from novice fly fishers as fly fishing rods aren't easy to handle right away. If there is anything that a newbie should avoid during the first few times of fishing, it is the wrong way of handling a fishing rod.
It is not entirely an incorrect way how to handle a fishing rod. It is just not exactly how it should be since the needed muscles and force aren't exerted this way. When you handle a fishing rod using your thumb on top of the rod handle; this position doesn't allow you to take advantage of the force and strength that your hand is capable of because your wrist is in tension.
