Fantastic Fishing Holidays in Europe
Posted by Magic Fishing
For holidaymakers with a passion for fishing, or just the desire to do something a little different with their time away, there are some exciting things to do around Europe. Many areas of the continent have prime freshwater and seawater fishing locations where those taking their well-deserved holidays can try their hand at catching everything from the freshest salmon to the largest Mediterranean tuna fish. Tuscany is one of the best fishing destinations for holidaymakers travelling to Italy. The best thing for visitors to do is get a short licence that will allow them to fish for the duration of their stay.
Alternatively it may be best to plan some sea fishing which does not require a licence, or the use of a private lake. Unless holidaymakers are lucky enough to stumble across one that the owners are happy for them to use. Aside from the fishing there is plenty more for holidaymakers to do while they are in North West Italy including taking a visit to the Tuscan cities of Florence and Pisa. Both are must sees and with Pisa being so close to the Italian Coast, visitors can head down for a spot of sea fishing after having a look at the city's famous leaning tower.
Big River Equals Big Fish - Right Or Wrong?
Posted by Magic Fishing on Sunday, March 27, 2011
A large fish simply cannot live in a small river without sufficient depth to contain its bulk. A fish that is exposed in this way for long soon becomes prey for some other creature. That is not to say that such fish cannot pass through shallow sections of their river (or other body of water) though the normal practice would be to wait for the wet season or, at least, some heavy rain. Even a bit of cloudiness to the water can help the fish to hide.

Fly Fishing For Trout - The Purists Method
Posted by Magic Fishing
If you ever get a chance to go to a fly fishing specialty shop, I highly recommend going; even if you never intend on fly fishing in your life. These shops have in-store fly tying and it is truly an art form. The level of detail and the amount of knowledge needed to tie an effective fly is staggering. Sadly, as we become less engrossed with outdoor activities, fly tying is beginning to become a lost art. There are, thankfully, many books available on how to tie fly's so it won't be delved into in this website specifically.

Summer Time Bass Fishing
Posted by Magic Fishing on Friday, March 18, 2011
This is the time of year to change your tactics when fishing those Lakes and ponds in this hot weather. We deal with a lot of moss and grass in the water around here. This is one of the first things I look for when going after a big lunker bass. Bait fishes hang out around the grasses for safety and of course the bass that feed on them are looking for that next meal. I like to fish these areas early in the morning and evenings. We fish with spinners, lipless crank baits, and buzz baits. We fish parallel to those grass and moss beds as to cover as much territory as possible with each cast. Many of the protruding edges along the grass line are the most productive. These areas provide cover for the bass and give them a angle to ambushing baitfish. We catch a large number of bass using plastic jigs and Worms in the middle of the day.

Winter Catfish Fishing - Best Methods of Catching Catfish in Cold Winter Months
Posted by Magic Fishing on Thursday, March 17, 2011
For example, they are a thrill to catch and can be a challenge to reel in. They live in almost any type of water so you can find them just about any where you live and they are considered an excellent source of tasty food by many.
A lot of anglers will tell you that catfish even taste better in the winter which is another reason why winter catfish fishing is becoming more popular than it ever has been in the past.
Catfish Fishing Tips
Posted by Magic Fishing on Wednesday, March 16, 2011
The best time to catch catfish is usually after dark until early morning right before the sun comes up, and they always seem to be the most active around a full moon. Catfish also like to hang out in holes where the water is a little deeper. Again, anywhere the current is a little slower and a place where food might gather is great place to find catfish.
Benefits Of Inflatable Fishing Boat
Posted by Magic Fishing on Tuesday, March 15, 2011
Most inflatable fishing boat fold small enough to be transported easily in a car trunk. They weigh around 40 lbs without running boards and are lightweight enough to be carried to nearby waterways. The boats are really versatile. They are equally suitable for fishing, diving, or as a pleasure cruiser. In addition to versatility and despite their large size, the boat is very easy to row.
Benefits Of Mail Order Fishing Tackle
Posted by Magic Fishing
In fact, the online medium is desirable for both retailers and consumers of angling gear. An online retailer would have lower operating costs and be able to reach out to a bigger market than those stores that only have a physical presence. A quick search online will provide information on a range of websites that offer tackle, bait, rods, and lines. No matter what type of angling you enjoy, you can be guaranteed that everything you require to land a big catch can be had through mail order.
Benefits of Fishing With a Spinning Reel
Posted by Magic Fishing
Unlike some reels, the spool is completely within view at all times. This allows for easier access when taking off or putting on new line, as well as when line tangling occurs.
What's more, a spinning reel's spool is stationary. Other reels can tangle because their spools move during the cast to let line out. This means that it can continue to release line after the lure has hit the water.
Another benefit to using a spinning reel is that the handle can be turned backwards at the flip of a switch, while the rest of the time being unidirectional.
The Benefits of Fishing With a GPS Chart Plotter
Posted by Magic Fishing
The GPS is same satellite navigation component that determines your precise location on the Earth. Once your location is detected, it is displayed as a set of longitude and latitude coordinates. A chartplotter is an electronic map of either the coastal waters, inland lakes, or any other navigable waters around the world. The GPS chartplotter we are all most familiar with is the one that sits on the dashboard of our car. We simply input our destination, and the GPS chartplotter (more commonly referred to as only a GPS) plots our course along the roads and tells us when, and which way to turn so we don't get lost. So although you can get a GPS unit without a chartplotter (you can either map your coordinates by hand on a paper map, or input your GPS data to a laptop via specialized software) a chartplotter cannot operate without a GPS unit. So how does this benefit me when I'm out fishing?
The Benefits of Fishing With Homemade Lures
Posted by Magic Fishing
Imagine the excitement of fishing with something that you crafted to hook a fish. The feeling of achievement would be magnified because of the fact that a fishing lure thought up first in your head, and then crafted by hand attracted a fish enough to take a bite. Creating a homemade lure is quick, uncomplicated, and can be accomplished with many common household objects. As an example, a dried up portion of corn cob can be utilized as an alternative to a bobber, and different colored yarn can be used as a replacement for fake worms.

10 Types of Fishing Tackle You May Need
Posted by Magic Fishing
1. Fish hooks are used to catch the fish by impaling them in the mouth or, on occasion, by snagging its body.
2. Anglers will need a fishing line, the cord that is attached to the hook, in order to catch the fish. Length, material and weight are important factors to consider.
3. A sinker or plummet is a weight that is used with the fishing lure or hook to increase the speed at which it sinks.
4. A float or bobber is used in angling for two purposes - one is to suspend the bait at a predetermined depth, while the second is to serve as a bite indicator.
The 10 Fishing Tackle Essentials Every Angler Needs
Posted by Magic Fishing
1. Probably the most important item of fishing tackle is your fishing rod. You'll need to make sure that yours is comfortable enough to use all day, and that it is the right weight and length for you, and the sort of fishing you're doing.
2. Fishing Reels and fly reels are also important. Depending on the sort of fish you're catching, you might want to be able to feed your line by hand, or by using the handle on the reel. Can you use your reel to land a fish even with gloves on, or when your hands are cold and wet?
3. You'll need different sorts of fishing line depending on what you're fishing for. Bigger fish will need a stronger line than smaller fish. You might want to set up several rods or fly reels so that you have the right sort of reel and line no matter what sort of fish are available.
4. Waders are essential if you want to get more involved in your fishing, and actually stand in the river to catch your fish. It's important to choose a good fitting pair that are comfortable, and will keep you warm all day.
Tricks to Big Grouper & Snapper - Crabs
Posted by Magic Fishing on Saturday, March 12, 2011
Grouper and Snapper are natural predators to a wide range of crustaceans and when fishing off of the east coast, there are several smaller crabs that are commonly found in the live bottom area between 90 and 250 feet. If you are over live bottom and marking fish on the sounder, it is a safe bet that if you drop a crab down, you will get some action. There are several key factors that play a major role when determining that "action"; tides, tide of day, type of crab.
First off, tides and time of day. The best bottom bite is always two hours before and two hours after low tide. Depending on the tides and the area you are fishing, trigger fish can be a major nuisance and there is nothing more annoying to an angler than getting trigger bit when searching out large game fish. To avoid getting trigger bit, you must get there early, before the sun comes up.
The Grouper Fishing Tactics That Work Best
Posted by Magic Fishing
First, you must know a little about bottom fishing, and then plentiful grouper fishing opportunities will follow. Start with a fifty-pound test monofilament line. This will handle just about any grouper that you can possibly encounter. Anything larger becomes a hassle and is also a bit too visible to your target fish. Use a terminal tackle - a sinker, leader, and hook configured with a bank sinker on the end of the leader and a 12-inch-long loop tied abut 18 inches up from there onto which the hook is tied.
15 Carp Fishing Paste Bait Tips!
Posted by Magic Fishing on Friday, March 11, 2011
Paste baits have always been superior in many ways to boilies because they have no barrier to the release of all their attraction and in fact can be so effective in this release that they melt into the water pretty much completely; all this soluble bait is rapidly dispersed in the water and pulls the fish magnificently to the bait!
How to Choose Fishing Rod and Reels

Rod actions
There are three types of action. The first, "through action", is where there is a uniformly smooth curve through the blank when playing a fish, and there is no doubt that maximum angling pleasure is to be had with a rod of this type. Where a little more backbone is required, "progressive action" rods come to the fore: with these a modest fish will still give a pleasing bend in the rod but there is a progressive power build-up in the butt to control larger specimens. Lastly, there are "fast taper" rods, that are very stiff in the butt and have very flexible tips. These are designed for ultra-long casting and fast line pick-up.
How to Choose the Right Fishing Line
Posted by Magic Fishing
1. You'll want to establish what sort of fish you'll be catching with your new line. Will you be sea fishing? Will you be catching salmon or trout? Will you be fishing abroad, and be catching different fish to what you're used to here?
2. Knowing where you'll be fishing can help too. If you regularly fish the same spots, you'll know what sort of fish are to be found there, and how big they are. This will help you to determine what size and strength of fishing line you'll need.
The Importance of Choosing the Right Fishing Line

Monofilament
Mono is the most common line used on the market today. There are basically two types of monofilament fishing line, monofilament limp or more commonly referred to as XL. This is a great line to use for casting and general fishing techniques, and the diameter of the line is the smallest of the two. XT or extra taught/abrasion restart line is best utilized for trolling or rough water conditions where your line comes in contact with a lot of obstacles such as weeds, rocks, stumps, and logs. These lines are very versatile and have a high stretch factor to consider, which an essential advantage for landing that largemouth bass.

How to Choose Fishing Lines

Monofilaments
Whatever main line you use, there is one rule that applies at all times -change your lines regularly. All mono lines deteriorate in time, especially if continually exposed to the sun, and you should renew your lines at least three times a season.
The three monofilament main lines recommended are Drennan Specimen Plus, Berkeley Trilene XT and Sufix Synergy. Specimen Plus is the all-round main line in all breaking strains, but when you require greater abrasion resistance, the Trilene or Sufbc lines are excellent.
Big Carp Fishing Bait Tricks Using Worms and Natural Attractors!
Posted by Magic Fishing on Wednesday, March 9, 2011
I caught my first ever carp around 1975 - on a worm for bait. Things in my carp fishing have changed very much since that time but worm baits of various kinds just keep catching. Being in horticulture it has been easy to get hold of enough worms to make homemade boilies and ground baits based on them. I have over the decades confirmed that some worms and worm products are far superior to others!
Unfortunately due to rising costs, the lobworm extracts often available today are synthetically-based and so are missing all those stimulatory amino acids in the profiles and ratios that carp love so much in lobworms. (Do check with your supplier if this is the case!) Most usually in reality these additives are composed of synthetic flavours, taste enhancers such as ribonucleotides and amino acids complexes etc, which despite trying; do not replicate the ideal palatability of the genuine natural product!
Best Homemade and Natural Trout Fishing Bait
Posted by Magic Fishing
Some types of natural baits are grasshoppers, may flies, nymphs, crayfish, crickets, minnows, and nightcrawlers. These are all terrific baits to use. The advantages of these baits is that, say in murky waters there smell alone will attract trout. They are just what trout know and love to eat, that's the importance of knowing what the natural prey is for trout in your area of fishing.
Surf Rigs - 2 Deadly Natural Bait Surf Rigs
Posted by Magic Fishing
The High-Low Rig
To tie the high low surf rig you will need about a 5 foot length of 40-60lb monofilament leader. At one end of your leader attach a weight snap. The choice of weight is a personal preference, pyramid sinkers work well in the surf, but if a heavy current is running a sputnik style weight would be better. 12 inches up from your snap swivel tie two dropper loops roughly 15 inches apart for your hooks. Shorter dropper loops tend to work much better for bite detection. Size and type of hook are again a matter of preference, but if you use circle hooks the fish will hook themselves and stand less chance of being gut hooked. 15 inches above the top loop tie on a barrel swivel to connect to your main line. Using the high-low rig will help keep the bait off the bottom, and has the advantage of having two baited hooks in the water.
