Summer Fishing Strategies - Part 1

Fish can be strange little creatures; after all, they are a lot like us. Different kinds of fish behave in their own way, but one factor for their behavior change is weather. Just like humans, fish behave differently in different weather.

In part one of this two part Summer Fishing Strategies series, we will give you a couple of strategies that will benefit you in your fishing escapades this summer.

Here are some strategies that may help you snag some fish under the hot summer California sun.
• Early Bird Catches the Worm: The most important summer strategy is to fish in the very early morning, about 5 am right before the sunrise would be ideal. Before the sunlight touches the blue California sky, you should have your rod ready to bring in some catch. Fish can be biting throughout all hours of the day; however fish are most likely to actively bite in the morning and yet again at sunset because these are the cooler hours.. The night can also be a great time for summertime fishing. The beach is a quieter place without swimmers and fish may come in close to shore to feed.

• Search For Signs: Summer time pier fishing in California is an enjoyable experience with the warm weather and crisp ocean breeze from the Pacific Ocean waters. When you engage in your morning pier fishing, as the sun begins to lighten up the sky, search for signs of feeding fish. These signs include swirls on top of the water and showering baitfish and fish that are jumping completely out of the water. When the fish are feeding, a small artificial lure on a light weight 7-foot rod and 10-pound test line will definitely get the job done. Avoid heavy wire leaders; use a short piece of 20-pound monofilament, and you will get more bites. If the fish were biting heavily, return to the same place at dusk to catch the encore.

Now that you have learned some effective summer fishing strategies, you are well on your way to catch plenty of fish throughout the summer months. If you want to learn more about summer fishing strategies, read the next component to the Summer Fishing Strategies series.
